Additional Ministries Funded by the Appeal

When you support the Catholic Stewardship Appeal, many lives are touched throughout the archdiocese.

All of the contributions to the Catholic Stewardship Appeal remain in the 10-county Milwaukee Archdiocese. Your gifts help lift spirits, relieve suffering, nurture faith and make Christ present in your very own parishes, neighborhoods and communities.

In many cases, the services funded by the Appeal have no other source of support. They are of such a scope that they can't be provided by parishes on their own. Only by working together in supporting the Appeal can we continue to enjoy these life-enhancing ministries.

The links below describe only some of the many services that are offered to Catholics and other residents of our 10-county archdiocese.

Campus Ministry

Campus Ministry serves two sites: UW-Milwaukee and UW-Whitewater. Campus ministers serve young people at a unique time in their lives and strive to make the Church meaningful to them as students, always keeping before them the reality that campus life is temporary. Upon leaving school, whether for vacations or to begin their careers, Church comes to life for them primarily through their connection to a parish.

Catholic Charities

Catholic Charities and caring go hand in hand. As a human service agency dedicated to meeting specific needs of the family of God, Catholic Charities helps the archdiocese respond lovingly to the Gospel imperative to feed the hungry, clothe the naked, welcome the stranger, and visit the sick within the following ministries:

  • Adult Care Ministries provide services to adults, the elderly and the disabled. Programs operate from these philosophical premises: to uphold the individual and to ensure that clients maintain their independence. Services include adult day care services, in-home support services for the elderly, case management, wellness conference, information and referrals on elder issues, group homes for adults with disabilities, and in-home supportive living programs for persons with cognitive and physical disabilities.

The programs focus on bringing stability to the lives of children and their families and increasing individual self-sufficiency. Services include pregnancy counseling, pre-natal care coordination, infant foster care, adoption placement, special needs adoption, step-parent and relative adoption, adoption search, parenting support services, supportive parenting program for disabled parents, companion families program, children cope with divorce program, individual, marriage and family counseling, Catholic school-based counseling, refugee resettlement services, legal services for immigrants, and outreach services.

Saint Francis de Sales Seminary

Saint Francis de Sales Seminary receives CSA funds to prepare men for the priesthood in the Roman Catholic tradition. In 2007, the Seminary moved forward with a bold new formation model, collaborating with Sacred Heart School of Theology in Hales Corners to educate and form seminarians. Lay graduate students are being formed at local Catholic universities. As a community of prayer, worship and learning, Saint Francis Seminary provides the spiritual foundation, theological understanding and pastoral competencies required to serve collaboratively and effectively in a Church and society of many races and cultures. Through its students and through its library services, the Seminary also extends its resources to the archdiocese and to the wider Church. In 2008, the Seminary introduced the Teaching Parish Model whereby seminarians relate to a parish for the four years of their education participating in the totality of the parish experience that will better prepare them for priestly ministry.

Social Justice Ministry

The Social Justice Ministry of the Archdiocese of Milwaukee strives to build the capacity of the diocesan Church to act effectively in defense of human life and dignity and the pursuit of justice and peace in upholding the principles of Catholic Social Teaching. Important ministries in this task include formation in Catholic social doctrine, respect life initiatives, and participation in national Catholic programs such as Catholic Relief Services. We support individual, parish, and Archdiocese activities that promote a consistent ethic of life by conducting parish leadership training and formation in human concerns, social, and pro-life ministries. We collaborate with other Archdiocesan departments, other Catholic organizations, interfaith groups, and public, private and governmental sectors to promote the common good.
