Although Racine has a Hispanic and Latino population of about 14 percent, the Catholic Church saw that social services for it were lacking. Catholic Charities, supported by the Appeal, stepped in to provide care for families and children.
It is an asset that Sr. Guisselle, a therapist there, is fluent in both Spanish and English. "When going through difficult times, you don't want to have to express yourself in another language," she observes. Jobs are a major concern for many of the 80 families and individuals she counsels. "I use faith as one of the resources in helping people find peace and understanding," Sr. Guisselle says. |
